About Eagle's Rest Sanctuary
Established in the state of Oklahoma in 2005, Eagle's Rest Sanctuary is a not for profit educational corporation.
Our Purpose:
"To study, protect, and care for habitat of the American Bald Eagle and other bird species within a developed habitat located in the State of Oklahoma."
We feel immensely blessed that these amazing birds chose this particular land to call home and continue their nest every year. The American Bald Eagle is very territorial and chooses their nest site carefully as it must meet their high criteria and standards. Bald eagles choose their nest site based on food supply, suitable nesting, perching trees right next to water (their food supply!) and isolation from human activity.
Once a nesting pair establishes a nest site, they will return to it annually as long as this criteria is always met. Mind you, Bald Eagles in the wild live 20-25 years! Due in part to the efforts of Eagles Rest Sanctuary’s volunteers the nesting bald eagles at our location in southeastern Oklahoma have never relocated their nest unless blown down in our Oklahoma storms. While many other eagle pairs relocate their nests from year to year, ours have consistently felt secure and comfortable with our efforts to minimize disturbance from humans and equipment. We pride ourselves in ensuring this is the case and that this property is a safe sanctuary by taking necessary measures when needed to safeguard these beautiful birds and their nest.
We also maintain monitoring of several other nests throughout southeastern Oklahoma, staying abreast as to the status of the annual nests, the number of fledglings and offer assistance if any is ever needed. It takes a community to ensure these amazing creatures are protected and preserved!
